DID YOU KNOW?
Very few people are aware of the enormous role Magnesium plays in our bodies. After oxygen, water and basic food, magnesium may be the most important element needed by our bodies. Magnesium is the most important mineral in the body, activating over 300 different biochemical reactions in your body, all necessary for your body to function properly. Magnesium is more important than calcium, potassium, or sodium and regulates all three of them.
What are the symptoms of a magnesium deficiency? Millions suffer daily from Insomnia, Sleep Disorders, Fatigue, Body Tension, Headaches, Heart Disorders, Low Energy, High Blood Pressure, Muscle Tension, Backaches. Other conditions are Constipation, Kidney Stones, Osteoporosis, Accelerated Aging, Depression, irregular Heartbeat, Anxiety, Muscle Cramps, Spasms or Irritability.
CALCIUM WARNING – Calcium needs magnesium in order to assimilate into the body. When too much calcium is consumed, it will pull magnesium out of body parts in order to assimilate the calcium. This creates a magnesium deficiency and the person will get worse and feel accordingly. This occurs with people who drink pasteurized milk. Milk is about 8 parts calcium to 1 part magnesium and will create a deficiency in magnesium.
Excess calcium in the body results in calcium deposits such as gallstones, kidney stones, calcium deposits on joints (often called arthritis). All of these have been known to disappear after taking extra magnesium. “Contrary to common belief, magnesium deficiency is very common even among those who supplement it regularly.”
The fact remains that many of us suffer for months and years from chronic conditions for which no one seems to detect the source. With all the myriad of solutions we have sought, only a lucky handful realize that the true source of these conditions lies with magnesium deficiency.
Magnesium controls digestion, energy production, muscle function, bone formation, creation of new cells, activation of B vitamins, relaxation of muscles, functioning of your heart, kidneys, adrenals, brain, as well as the nervous system. Magnesium deficiency will interfere with any of these factors. Can you see how many things can go wrong if you run too low on magnesium? Once magnesium is deficient, dozens of processes are disturbed and many minerals and nutrients can̓'t function. The body goes out of balance or get a little more specific:
FATIGUE & LOW ENERGY – When not enough magnesium is available, energy production is inhibited and the eventual outcome is fatigue and weakness. Magnesium is vital for the maintenance of adequate energy levels. Magnesium is essential in regulating potassium Ievels and functioning of the adrenal gland, both important for maintaining high energy levels.
NERVOUSNESS & INSOMNIA – Magnesium deficiency can cause insomnia, as well as waking up with muscle spasms, cramps, tension and feeling uncomfortable. Most of these will disappear with magnesium supplementation. Magnesium is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system. Without sufficient magnesium the nerve cells cannot give or receive messages and become excitable and highly reactive. This causes the person to become highly sensitive and highly nervous. Noises will seem excessively loud and the person will jump at sudden sounds like a door slamming and will generally be nervous and on edge. Lights can appear to be too bright. Every person who is nervous is deficient in magnesium.
MUSCLE DISORDERS – Muscle spasms, muscle cramps, muscle jerks. muscle tics, eye tics, hiccups are all caused by a magnesium deficiency. Take sufficient magnesium and they will disappear. It is not calcium that handles these difficulties; it is magnesium.
Magnesium and calcium work together to control muscle action. Calcium tightens the muscles; magnesium relaxes the muscles. With insufficient magnesium the muscles stay tense, causing a cramp in the muscle. This could happen when you have too much calcium and too little magnesium. The same thing happens in the heart, which is a muscle. The heart goes into a spasm and can’t relax. This is called a heart attack. Get some magnesium into the body and the heart will start beating again.
WHAT DEPLETES IT? – These factors dramatically speed up the depletion of your body's magnesium storage and make it necessary for much more magnesium to be consumed: Mental stress, coffee, sugar, high sodium diet, alcohol, sodas, tobacco, high perspiration, medical drugs of all types, low thyroid, diabetes, chronic pain, diuretics, a high carbohydrate diet and a high calcium diet. Calcium? Yes. Can too much calcium be a problem? More than you ever thought in your worst nightmare.
THE CALCIUM PROBLEM – Excess calcium is a vastly widespread problem, as excess calcium DEPLETES magnesium from the body and as a result brings about all of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency (see earlier). At this point, it will be unimportant how much magnesium you consumed, but how much is left in your body. If you feel your body is out of balance and isn't functioning right (with some symptoms manifesting), suspect excess calcium especially if you have been supplementing it. Remember, calcium and magnesium need to be in the correct proportions for your own needs, otherwise the calcium turns from a nutrient into a pollutant causing heart disease, arthritis, hardening of the arteries, senility, osteoporosis and calcification of organs and tissues that eventually completely degenerate. Unlike calcium, magnesium does not build up in the body, as excess is eliminated.
Take the following example: What country has the highest rate of pasteurized milk consumption? That's right: America. Now, what country has the highest rate of consuming calcium supplements? Correct again: America. America must have the lowest occurrence of osteoporosis (calcium loss & bone fragility) of all countries! Right? Wrong! We have the highest rate! Why? Excess calcium combined with low magnesium. Taking more calcium will not fix a calcium deficiency, which is quite evident from the statistics. It Is magnesium that will handle the Calcium deficiency as well as the magnesium deficiency itself (it will dissolve any excess calcium from the body, while helping any needed calcium to assimilate)
PMS & OSTEOPOROSIS – PMS is mostly a magnesium deficiency. Too much calcium and not enough magnesium causes PMS. Instant relief can be obtained by taking magnesium. When it comes to Osteoporosis, magnesium is crucial in regulating bone density, as it is magnesium which allows calcium to assimilate. Calcium alone is useless and potentially harmful.
THE HEART CONNECTION – Did you know that without sufficient magnesium you would actually die? Your heart will stop beating and the doctors will then call it “a heart attack” Never do they say, “He died from a Magnesium Deficiency.” This is how critical it is to have proper magnesium levels in the body. The early signs of such terminal extinction are racing heart beats or any unusual change in heart beats, angina pains, collapsing from exhaustion after heavy physical exercise or work such as running a race, playing football or basket ball. Due to lack of magnesium the heart muscle develops a spasm or cramp and stops beating. This is because there is insufficient magnesium to relax the heart and ready it for the next contraction. Irregular heartbeats are caused by magnesium deficiency. Take some magnesium and it will go away.
HEADACHES, DIABETES, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, ETC.
Asthma, headaches, migraines, seizures, pregnancy related symptoms, depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, hyperactivity, ADD, arthritis, kidney stones all get worse when sufficient magnesium isn't consumed. Supply the magnesium and they will improve. Some of these conditions will improve instantly, others will need some time.
Diabetes - Insulin is the hormone, which helps with the regulation of glucose (sugar) metabolism. Magnesium has been found to improve insulin̓s response to dietary sugar and improve the action of insulin in regulating blood sugar levels.
High blood pressure - Magnesium is needed by anyone with high blood pressure.
THE SOLUTION – Magnesium can be taken on its own without side effects. Magnesium taken on its own without any calcium will help you feel younger, more energetic, stronger and give you a multitude of other benefits all as result of the magnesium being present to do its job. To handle a magnesium deficiency it’s best to take the magnesium on its own without any calcium. Then, only when the deficiency is handled, go back onto calcium and magnesium together. Stay alert for any need for extra magnesium or better yet take some on a regular basis.
From Are You Missing Your Magnesium?
Eighty to ninety percent of the United States population may be “notably” deficient in magnesium.
The consumption of alcohol and the use of diuretics cause magnesium loss, as do several prescription drugs. A carbonated soft drink may contain up to 90 mg. of phosphorus that will bind with an equal amount of magnesium, making it unavailable.
Stress plays a significant role in preventing the absorption of magnesium. By causing the kidneys to release magnesium. Since the kidney does not have a mechanism for conserving magnesium, rapid losses can occur.
