Mullein is used to relieve pain. It has numerous uses, but the main one is in the treatment of lung disease, coughs, consumption and hemorrhage of the respiratory organs. Mullein has narcotic properties that do not induce euphoria. It quiets inflamed and irritated nerves, relieves pain and is soothing to any inflammation.
It is helpful in chest ailments by clearing the lungs and relieving spasms. Mullein is also used to treat lymphatic congestion and as an anti-spasmodic and astringent herb, it is effective for a wide range of respiratory problems and swollen membrane conditions.
The oil of Mullein is used as an excellent remedy for ear infections.
Mullein is rich in iron, magnesium, potassium, sulfur, aluminum, and calcium phosphate. It is primarily mucilaginous or demulcent, which makes it soothing, softening, emollient and healing. It has a slight astringent effect as well. Diuretic, expectorant, antispasmodic and pain relieving qualities are also attributed to it.
