Progesterone Supplementation for PMS and Menopause
Up to 60% of American women suffer from symptoms of PMS. During menopause, 75% will experience symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, emotional instability, insomnia, lack of libido and depression. Despite popular opinion, research shows that many symptoms, commonly labeled as "low estrogen," are actually caused from low levels of progesterone.
Pro-G-Yam Cream supports the glandular, nervous and structural systems of the body. It has been used to relieve PMS and symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal dryness. Its ingredients protect against osteoporosis and regulate the menstrual cycle. Pro-G-Yam Cream contains progesterone and wild yam extract in an herbal base of chamomile, aloe vera, horsetail, ginkgo and yucca extracts.
Progesterone is a precursor to adrenal corticosteroids and all of the sex hormones so the body can convert progesterone to these other hormones as needed. Progesterone balances the effects of estrogen, but progesterone is not just balancing for the reproductive cycle. It supports cell oxygenation, normal blood sugar levels, mood, bone formation and utilization of fat for energy. Low levels of progesterone can cause menstrual cycle irregularities, PMS, hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, moodiness, excess body hair and osteoporosis. Progesterone has been used to treat vaginal dryness, PMS, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, urinary tract infections, menopause and osteoporosis.
Many menopausal women are concerned with bone loss. Most are erroneously convinced that estrogen drug therapy is the solution. Research has shown that bone density is not benefited by estrogen but by supplemental progesterone. Progesterone stimulates osteoblasts, the bone forming cells of the body preventing and reversing bone loss.
In one study, postmenopausal women with varying degrees of osteoporosis, were given 330 500 mg. per month of transdermal (through the skin) progesterone. The researchers found that progesterone worked independently of estrogen to reverse osteoporosis. The women's bone density increased by: 7-8% in the first year, 4-5% during the second year and 3-4% after the third year. Women of this age group generally see a 1-2% decrease in bone density each year so these findings were quite significant.
A large group of studies compiled by Harvard has shown that synthetic hormone replacement therapy (HRT) greatly increases a woman's risk of breast cancer, topical progesterone cream has been shown to dramatically reduce breast cell multiplication rates. Progesterone does not have the cancer risk associated with synthetic estrogen replacement therapy.
NSP's Pro-G-Yam Cream contains the natural progesterone, the same hormone produced by our bodies. Medicine typically relies on synthetic analogs of hormones for hormone replacement therapy. Synthetic progesterone causes many negative side effects such as breast tenderness, insomnia, menstrual irregularities, depression, cardiovascular damage, blood clots, fluid retention, uterine cancer and breast cancer.
Pro-G-Yam Cream contains 5mg of progesterone per ounce, supplying about 21 mg. of progesterone per 1/4 teaspoon dose. A trans dermal (through the skin) nutrient delivery system is one of the best ways to receive progesterone due to its high permeability values. Oral doses do not work as well as the progesterone may be used by the liver before it is available for glandular support or broken down and excreted by the digestive system.
Pro-G- Yam Cream is a deep-penetrating formula containing a patented liposome delivery system that provides a prolonged release action of its ingredients.
Wild yam has an over 2,000-year history as a female and liver tonic. It has been used for female complaints such as cramps, painful menstruation, ovarian and uterine pain, menopause, hot flashes, fatigue and vaginal dryness. Wild yam activates and stimulates the liver. Wild yam's active constituents are steroidal saponins which are used as hormone precursors in the manufacture of progesterone and other hormones. Some of these active constituents are analgesic and anti-inflammatory is the reason why wild yam is helpful for many painful conditions. Today yam extracts are used to make two-thirds of the world's sex hormone and corticosteroid prescriptions. NSP's Pro-G-Yam Cream contains natural wild yam extract.
